Iverson discussed his past struggles with alcohol addiction, noting that heavy consumption often occurred during travel or while at casinos. He described his decision to stop drinking as one of the best choices of his life, observing that the lack of a rigorous routine after retirement made the impact of alcohol harder to manage than during his playing days. Additionally, Iverson reflected on his 2010 tenure with the Turkish club Beşiktaş. He admitted that his ego and pride contributed to the end of his career, stating he was aware he was committing ‘professional suicide’ by refusing to accept a bench role. He also detailed a severe calf injury sustained in Turkey, noting that a disagreement between his team and the club over whether to undergo surgery in Istanbul or the United States led to the conclusion of his contract. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-16: Allen Iverson reflects on Beşiktaş tenure and career impact NBA legend Allen Iverson discussed his 2010 tenure at Beşiktaş, attributing the end of his career to personal ego and a severe calf injury that required surgery in the United States. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/allen-iverson-reflects-on-beikta-tenure-and-career-impact ### 2026-10-15: Allen Iverson reveals past struggles with alcohol addiction Former NBA star Allen Iverson revealed his past struggles with alcohol addiction and heavy spending on tequila following his retirement from professional basketball. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/allen-iverson-reveals-past-struggles-with-alcohol-addiction --- Cite as: Allen Iverson personal and professional reflections.
