# Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant operations and infrastructure > Live situation record from CLSTR: https://clstr.news/situations/almaraz-nuclear-power-plant-operations-and-infrastructure > Updated: 2026-10-26T06:01:05.000Z. Sources: 2. Developments: 2. The Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant is managing operational continuity and infrastructure development. The facility has resumed training new control room operators, a move interpreted as a sign of commitment to continued operations despite previous uncertainty regarding potential closures scheduled for 2027 or 2028. To extend operations beyond the current 2030 shutdown target, technical safety reviews and formal requests must be initiated in the coming years. Simultaneously, the plant is advancing the construction of its second Individualized Temporary Storage (ATI) facility, known as ATI-100. This project is approximately 80% complete and is designed to house high-level radioactive waste and spent fuel. The new facility will provide significantly more capacity than the existing ATI-20 facility, which has reached 100% occupancy. This localized storage approach follows the cancellation of a previously planned centralized storage project. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-26: Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant advances new waste storage facility The Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant is 80% through constructing a new high-capacity waste storage facility designed to hold spent fuel for the plant's entire operational lifespan. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/almaraz-nuclear-power-plant-advances-new-waste-storage-facility ### 2026-10-17: Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant resumes operator training amid extension talks The Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant has resumed training new operators, signaling a potential push to extend its operations beyond the currently scheduled 2030 shutdown. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/almaraz-nuclear-power-plant-resumes-operator-training-amid-extension-talks --- Cite as: Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant operations and infrastructure.
