Students from the General Emiliano Zapata Rural Normal School in Amilcingo initiated protests in Morelos, Mexico, following the appointment of a new school director by the Institute of Basic Education of the State of Morelos (IEBEM). The students argued the appointment process lacked their participation, violating previous agreements. Demands from the student body included involvement in leadership selection, improved infrastructure for dormitories and sports facilities, increased budgets for food and technology, and the removal of staff accused of misconduct. Following the cancellation of a scheduled meeting with Governor Margarita González Saravia, the unrest escalated. Demonstrators from Amilcingo, joined by groups from Ayotzinapa and Tenería, vandalized the Government Palace in Cuernavaca. Protesters burned mattresses in the Plaza de Armas and damaged the building’s windows.
