The award, presented in the cultural and political journalism category, recognizes her decades of reporting from within the occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza and Ramallah. During her acceptance, Hass addressed the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that there is no symmetry between the occupied Palestinians and the Israeli occupation. She described her work as documenting the mechanisms of settlement colonialism and patterns of power and domination. Hass noted that Israel’s actions in Gaza align with long-term policies and that the military response to the October 7 attacks has led to large-scale destruction and repression. The recognition highlights Hass’s commitment to reporting on Palestinian reality and focusing on individuals often reduced to statistics in mainstream media. The award also draws parallels to past recipients like Anna Politkovskaya, emphasizing the importance of investigative journalism that challenges official narratives. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-09: Amira Hass receives Vázquez Montalbán International Journalism Award Amira Hass has received the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Journalism Award in Barcelona for her investigative reporting on the Palestinian reality. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amira-hass-receives-vzquez-montalbn-international-journalism-award ### 2026-10-05: Amira Hass receives Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Journalism Award Israeli journalist Amira Hass received the Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Journalism Award in Barcelona for her reporting on the Israeli occupation and Palestinian territories. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/amira-hass-receives-manuel-vzquez-montalbn-international-prize --- Cite as: Amira Hass receives journalism award.
