The olive oil sector in Andalusia, particularly in the province of Jaén, is engaging in efforts to promote its heritage through technology, literature, and tourism. To further support oleotourism, the Diputación de Jaén has launched a call for subsidies totaling approximately 200,000 euros. These funds, available for applications until November 15, aim to help olive oil mills, or almazaras, adapt their facilities for visitors.

The subsidy program is divided into two lines: 170,000 euros for physical improvements, such as tasting rooms, visitor reception areas, and accessibility upgrades, and 20,000 euros for promotional materials like videos and brochures. These initiatives seek to enhance the visitor experience and stimulate local employment.

As the industry evolves, there is an increasing emphasis on production quality and security. Government officials have highlighted the region's status as a global leader in extra virgin olive oil, driven by advancements in production systems and early harvest oils. To protect the harvest, security forces and agricultural representatives are coordinating to prevent theft during the upcoming campaign.

Recent data highlights the ecological role of these groves, which serve as vital refuges for migratory birds from central and northern Europe between October and February. Research by SEO/BirdLife on an estate near the Guadiana Menor river recorded 114 species, including robins, thrushes, starlings, and white wagtails.

Economically, the 2025/2026 campaign shows specific pricing trends. For the week of October 24 to 30, POOLRED reported an average Spanish olive oil price of 3.06 euros, including 3.13 euros for Extra Virgin Olive Oil, 2.89 euros for Virgin Olive Oil, and 2.78 euros for Lampante oil.
