Greek underwater archaeologists located a Classical‑period merchant shipwreck off Andros in the Aegean at a depth of 39‑44 metres. The wreck, dated to the late 5th or early 4th century BC, contained an estimated 600‑650 pointed‑bottom amphorae representing three production types (Mende, Peparethos and Solokha 2). Divers recovered representative samples, a fragment of a lead‑coated anchor stock and ballast stones.
