Angola has officially commenced the 2026-2027 academic year, marked by an opening ceremony in Huambo province. During the launch, Minister of Education Erika de Carvalho announced the inclusion of 140 new schools and noted that 3 million students would be supported by the School Feeding Program. Prior to the launch, the Ministry of Education had prepared for the year under the theme ‘50 Years of Literacy, Education, and Transformation in Angola’. UNITA estimated a need for between 2,000 and 8,000 additional schools to accommodate youth outside the formal system, as well as a projected shortage of 60,000 to 78,000 educators.

As the academic cycle progresses, the Ministry of Education has announced the distribution of approximately 2 million textbooks and 12,000 desks to reinforce public schools. In Cabinda, provincial authorities are acquiring 18,000 desks to support over 270,000 students. Despite these resource distributions, families in Luanda report significant stress due to rising tuition fees and the high cost of school supplies, which they claim are outstripping stagnant wages. Some institutions are also reportedly facing difficulties with enrollment confirmation and the posting of class lists.
