The community of Monteforte Irpino in Avellino is reacting to the death of Duke, a one-year-old mixed-breed dog found with multiple gunshot wounds. The incident has caused widespread indignation among local citizens, animal welfare associations, and municipal authorities.

Mayor Fabio Sircio and Animal Protection Councilor Francesca De Santis have condemned the act, with local officials calling for authorities to identify those responsible. In response to the violence, the municipality has organized a public demonstration and sit-in for October 19 to demand justice and address animal cruelty.

This event follows a similar incident in December involving a dog named Nathan, which has intensified local concerns regarding poaching and the safety of free-roaming animals in the region.
