Osasuna management has expressed a strong interest in extending the contract of 35-year-old Croatian striker Ante Budimir, whom Sporting Director José Antonio Prieto described as a “club legend.”

Budimir’s recent form has been marked by significant volatility. During the eighth matchday of the season, he experienced a dramatic three-minute sequence against Real Betis, scoring an own goal in the 48th minute followed immediately by his sixth goal of the season. Despite his scoring, Osasuna lost the match 5-2.

Osasuna broke a difficult run of form in the ninth round of La Liga with a 2-0 victory against Racing Santander. Budimir led the effort by scoring the opening goal in the ninth minute via a penalty. Asier Osambele secured the win in the 88th minute. This victory moved Osasuna to ninth place in the standings with 11 points.

Budimir has since delivered a prolific start to the season, accounting for 70% of the team’s total offensive production by scoring seven of Osasuna’s ten goals through the first nine matches. He has reached several historical milestones, including scoring the club’s 1,800th top-flight goal and setting a new record for the most goals scored by an Osasuna player in a single Primera División campaign with 21 goals. He has also become the club’s most-capped foreign player with 228 appearances. Due to his impact and veteran leadership, management is expected to begin formal negotiations to ensure his continuity beyond his current contract, which runs until June 2027.
