Director Antonin Baudry released ‘De Gaulle: Resistance’, the first part of a historical thriller duology centered on Charles de Gaulle. The film depicts De Gaulle’s refusal to accept the 1940 French armistice and his efforts to establish the Free French Forces from London.

The subsequent installment, ‘De Gaulle: Liberté’, covering the period from 1940 to 1944, has led to significant commercial success for the series, surpassing five million admissions. The production has seen a notable engagement from Generation Z, which is attributed to marketing strategies and the portrayal of De Gaulle as a “radical, independent leader driven by the general interest.” The second film is scheduled for a Dutch theatrical release in September 2026 following a festival premiere.
