Apple TV+ has greenlit ‘Ascension,’ a new one-hour psychological horror thriller series directed by Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón. Inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel ‘Last Days,’ the series stars Caitríona Balfe as Rose, a documentary filmmaker and mother who investigates a mysterious 20th-century cult called the Church of Ascension.

As Rose explores the group, she uncovers a sinister reality beneath its teachings. The project is a production of Apple Studios and Anonymous Content. The writing team includes Alfonso Cuarón, Carlos Cuarón, Natalie Erika James, and Christian White. James and White will serve as co-showrunners, with James also acting as the lead director. Balfe will serve as an executive producer.
