Recent archaeological findings in Europe have highlighted significant historical assemblages. In Upper Austria, researchers identified a massive collection of at least 500 semi-finished iron bars dating to the La Tène period. Weighing over a tonne, these bars represent the largest known collection of its kind in Europe and suggest a highly organized system of production and exchange, possibly involving transport via the Danube.

In Germany, an amateur archaeologist using a metal detector discovered a substantial hoard of 934 Roman silver denarii near Wesseling in the Rhineland. Weighing approximately 3.1 kilograms, this collection is noted as the largest Roman coin treasure ever found in Germany from the era of Emperor Hadrian and is ranked as the fifth largest such collection discovered globally.

The coins, which were likely stored in a straw-lined container, span a chronological range from the Roman Republic in 148 BC to approximately 125 AD. This indicates that older coins remained valid currency in the Roman monetary system for over 270 years. The collection is currently being processed at the LVR-Landesmuseum Bonn.
