In Buenos Aires province, the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) has sought the preventive suspension of a 46-year-old driver’s license after viral footage showed the individual consuming whisky while driving at high speeds on Route 2. The driver and passenger were recorded making reckless comments, including the phrase “si nos matamos, nos matamos” (if we kill ourselves, we kill ourselves). This incident was flagged via the ANSV’s Citizen Road Report System, which has processed over 2,200 reports and led to requested suspensions for 30 drivers since its June launch.

Infrastructure and enforcement efforts include AUBASA investing approximately $100,000 to install four new speed cameras on Autovía 2 near El Peligro, featuring LED displays for real-time feedback. Conversely, the reinstallation of cameras on National Route 34 near Urundel and Yuto remains legally contested; a judge ruled these devices lack ANSV authorization, making associated fines invalid.

To expand regulated enforcement, the ANSV has recently authorized new traffic control devices in other provinces. In Neuquén, Piedra del Águila is permitted to operate speed and overtaking detection devices on National Route 237. In Corrientes, Curuzú Cuatiá has been authorized to deploy six devices across National Routes 14 and 119 to monitor speed, improper overtaking, and headlight usage. The ANSV stated these measures are intended to be “preventive, deterrent, and educational rather than purely for revenue collection.”

Other recent incidents include a truck fire on National Route 12 in Gualeguay caused by an engine malfunction and a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck in La Plata.
