In August 2026, SENASA President María Beatriz “Pilu” Giraudo advocated for the integration of sanitary and environmental controls during the early stages of aquaculture projects in Tierra del Fuego. A primary focus was the need to strengthen the provincial laboratory in Ushuaia to reduce logistical costs and processing times associated with sending analyses to Buenos Aires, thereby ensuring compliance with international protocols.

By September 2026, SENASA expanded these efforts by implementing Argentina’s first sanitary framework for commercial pisciculture through Resolution No. 793/2026. This regulation establishes biosecurity and good practice standards for fish production facilities across land, continental waters, and maritime environments. The framework requires establishments to register with the National Sanitary Registry of Agricultural Producers (RENSPA), maintain animal welfare standards, and employ an Accredited Aquaculture Technician. To facilitate these requirements, SENASA planned to launch an accreditation course via its virtual classroom in October.
