Sources: 4. Developments: 2. Argentine football players are increasingly transferring to the United Arab Emirates, marking a shift away from traditional career paths toward European leagues. This trend is fueled by competitive financial offers and the tax-free income structure in the UAE, which provides more lucrative contracts than those available in Argentina. While UAE clubs previously focused on established stars nearing the end of their careers, they are now actively targeting young talents with resale value. For instance, Al Ain reportedly paid approximately $4 million for 20-year-old Mateo Sanabria. Several players have exemplified this movement, including Matías Palacios, a midfielder from San Lorenzo who has found success with Al Ain, and players such as Gerónimo Rivera, Lionel Verde, and Elián Irala. These transfers allow players to improve their economic status while providing Argentine institutions with significant financial offers. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-19: Argentine footballers increasingly transfer to United Arab Emirates Young Argentine footballers are increasingly transferring to the United Arab Emirates, drawn by tax-free salaries and lucrative contracts that offer immediate economic benefits over domestic options. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/argentine-footballers-increasingly-transfer-to-united-arab-emirates ### 2026-09-16: Argentine footballers find success in United Arab Emirates Argentine football talents are increasingly choosing the United Arab Emirates over Europe, with players like Matías Palacios and Gerónimo Rivera finding success in the Emirati league. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/argentine-footballers-find-success-in-united-arab-emirates --- Cite as: Argentine footballers transferring to United Arab Emirates.
