The prosecution alleges Cortéz committed aggravated homicide by shooting a suspect, Marcelo Flores, from a distance after he was restrained. The defense argues Cortéz acted in self-defence against a knife attack. 

Separately, the Argentine Supreme Court has cleared the way for the trial of commander Juan López Torales. He faces charges of aggravated illegal deprivation of liberty and false testimony related to a 2014 incident during a protest in Tigre. Video footage reportedly shows López Torales simulating being struck by a vehicle to justify the arrest of a driver.
