Argentina is observing various commemorations regarding the memory of its last military dictatorship.

In September, the country marked the 50th anniversary of ‘La Noche de los Lápices,’ a period in 1976 when high school students were kidnapped, tortured, and disappeared by the military regime. Commemorations included marches in La Plata and Rosario, with officials and human rights leaders emphasizing the importance of democratic memory. Modern student groups also used the anniversary to advocate for current education and student rights.

Additionally, students in Escobar created a mural titled ‘Las raíces de la memoria’ (The Roots of Memory) at Matheu Station. The artwork, which depicts a tree growing amidst chains and scales, serves as a tribute to the memory of the 1976 coup d'état.
