Following earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, a K9 unit from the Gualeguay volunteer fire department participated in international search and rescue operations. Coordinated with the Asociación Civil Escuela Canina de Catástrofe, firefighters Gastón Velázquez and Osiris López, accompanied by dogs Roma and Oma, located 48 people trapped in rubble. The mission resulted in the rescue of five survivors, including two children, and the identification of 43 fatalities.

In recognition of these efforts, the Gualeguay City Council held a ceremony to honor the team. Councilman Sebastián Schaumann presented a resolution declaring their humanitarian work a ‘Declaration of Interest,’ praising the bravery and professionalism displayed by the firefighters and their canine partners.
