Public opinion polls in Argentina indicate a growing disconnect between societal values regarding national sovereignty and the actions of the national government.

An initial survey by Zuban-Córdoba found that while a majority of citizens feel the concepts of “national sovereignty” and the “defense of the homeland” are increasingly present in society, 65.7% of respondents believe these values are less present in government decisions.

Subsequent polling data revealed stronger specific preferences for national control, with 81.8% of Argentines supporting the retention of essential resources—such as lithium, land, and water—in national hands. The data also showed that 77.9% of respondents favor an independent foreign policy based on national interests, and 74.1% prioritize the protection of national industry. These findings stand in contrast to statements from Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, who described the concept of national sovereignty as “outdated.”
