Olympic short track speed skater Arianna Fontana has addressed her professional future following recent competitive experiences. Speaking at the Premio Gentleman in Milan, Fontana reflected on her career and her role as an ambassador for Inter Milan, noting that she intends to reassess her next steps in the new year. Regarding her career trajectory, Fontana stated that ‘the door is open, it is not closing yet.’ In addition to discussing her athletic future, she expressed confidence in FIGC President Gabriele Malagò’s capacity to manage current sporting situations.

Following the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, the 36-year-old athlete expressed further uncertainty regarding her continued participation in professional sports. During a ceremony at CONI, Fontana noted that she is undecided whether the recent Games marked her final Olympic appearance, stating, ‘I don’t know if it was the last Olympics in Milano Cortina.’

Fontana indicated that any decision regarding her future, including the possibility of competing in the 2030 Olympics, will depend on her remaining physical and mental energy. With 14 career Olympic medals, including gold in the mixed relay and silver in the 500 meters, Fontana has become the most decorated Italian athlete in Olympic history, surpassing the record previously held by fencer Edoardo Mangiarotti.
