A series of fires occurred in Argentina and Uruguay during mid-October 2026.

Initial reports focused on suspected criminal activity. In Punta del Este, Uruguay, hooded individuals used fuel to set a Mercedes-Benz on fire, damaging a nearby vehicle. In Merlo, Argentina, two young men were arrested after an intentional fire at the Teatro Municipal Espacio Multiarte, which caused material damage to the unoccupied building.

Subsequent incidents appeared to be accidental. In Trelew, Argentina, a fire at a convenience store caused heavy damage, with preliminary findings suggesting an electrical malfunction in a refrigerator power supply. In Piriápolis, Uruguay, a fire at an unoccupied hotel was attributed to a short circuit in the electrical wiring of a fire pump room.
