The Polícia Judiciária arrested a 52-year-old man suspected of igniting two forest fires in the Boleiros area of Fátima during September and October. The fires affected a forested region consisting of eucalyptus, cork oaks, and scrubland.

Investigators believe the suspect used matches to start the fires near his residence. Authorities are examining whether the individual is connected to other regional forest fires from earlier this year, noting similarities in the ‘spatio-temporal pattern and modus operandi’. While the suspect has a criminal record, officials stated he had not previously served time for arson. The suspect allegedly acted for ‘futile motives’ and is awaiting judicial proceedings.
