Iranian director Asghar Farhadi has recently seen activity surrounding his latest film, ‘Parallel Stories’ (also referred to as ‘Parallel Tales’). Following its debut at the Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, the psychological drama has received polarized critical reactions regarding its pacing and character depth.

At the 33rd International Adana Golden Boll Film Festival in Turkey, Farhadi was honored as a guest of honor and received a Lifetime Achievement Award. During the festival, he conducted a masterclass and hosted the Turkish premiere of ‘Parallel Tales’ (Kesişen Hayatlar), which features an ensemble cast including Isabelle Huppert, Vincent Cassel, and Catherine Deneuve.

Farhadi’s international presence continued at the Festival do Rio 2026 in Brazil. During the festival, he presented his tenth feature film and participated in special screenings and an open class at Armazém da Utopia. The film, which explores themes of voyeurism and the blurred lines between fiction and reality, was noted for its inspiration from Krzysztof Kieślowski’s ‘Dekalog’ series. The ensemble cast for the Rio presentation included Isabelle Huppert, Vincent Cassel, Virginie Efira, Pierre Niney, and Adam Bessa.

During his activities, Farhadi discussed his connection to Iranian realism, noting how his work maintains Iranian identity even when filmed outside of his home country.
