Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty has faced significant production challenges during the early part of the season. Initially, Jeanty dealt with a high ankle sprain and a recent foot injury, which coincided with offensive line struggles that resulted in rushers being met at or behind the line of scrimmage 53% of the time. Despite these injuries, head coach Klint Kubiak confirmed Jeanty would continue playing, noting he was ‘really starting to feel a lot better physically’.

As the season progressed, Jeanty’s rushing efficiency remained low, averaging less than three yards per carry in five games, including a performance against the Los Angeles Rams where he recorded only 15 rushing yards. While the Raiders' ground game has ranked among the worst in the NFL, Jeanty has shown versatility in the passing game, recording a season-high eight receptions in a recent matchup.

Heading into a Week 8 matchup against the New York Jets, Jeanty has engaged in verbal sparring with the opposing defense, claiming that certain Jets defenders ‘don’t really want to tackle’. The Raiders enter this contest following a four-game losing streak, having started the season with a 3-0 record.

The matchup features the 3-4 Raiders against the 2-5 Jets. On the offensive side, quarterback Kirk Cousins leads the NFL with 16 touchdown passes, though the team has struggled with red zone efficiency. While there is ongoing discussion regarding the development of rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza, Kubiak has reaffirmed Cousins as the starter. The Jets, led by head coach Aaron Glenn, are also seeking to stabilize their season after losing five of their last six games.
