Punjab will host the Men’s Asian Champions Trophy from October 27 to November 5, 2026, with matches scheduled for Jalandhar and Mohali. The state government sanctioned ₹25.40 crore to fund the event and upgrade the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium in Jalandhar and the Olympian Balbir Singh (Senior) International Hockey Stadium in Mohali. The tournament marks the return of international hockey to the state after 17 years.

Following the announcement, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) requested that the Asian Hockey Federation relocate the tournament or move Pakistan’s matches to a neutral location, citing the “sensitive bilateral situation.” Hockey India rejected the request, maintaining the tournament will proceed in India. However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann noted that Indian policy allows participation in multi-lateral tournaments in accordance with the Olympic Charter, and Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh stated that relations between the two national federations remain positive. A match between India and Pakistan is scheduled for November 1 in Jalandhar.

The competing nations are India, Malaysia, South Korea, China, Japan, and Bangladesh, with Oman and Bangladesh designated as reserves. India, the defending champion, begins its campaign against Bangladesh on October 27. The 18-member Indian squad is led by captain Harmanpreet Singh. Due to a calf injury sustained during practice, Manpreet Singh will miss the opening match, with Vivek Sagar Prasad named to the starting eleven in his place. The tournament final is scheduled for November 4 at the Mohali International Stadium.
