Developments: 2. In late August 2026, the manager of the Asiatic cheetah project in Iran, Baqer Nazami, announced a new strategic roadmap for the critically endangered species. The plan focuses on protecting habitats by removing free-roaming camels and reducing pressure from domestic livestock. Key objectives include restoring migratory corridors, expanding protected areas, increasing field patrols, and enhancing scientific research through cooperation between government agencies, local communities, and NGOs. Following this strategic outline, a significant conservation milestone was reported in the Turan Biosphere Reserve in Semnan province. A seven-year-old female cheetah named Telma was documented by rangers alongside two one-year-old cubs. Authorities noted that the presence of healthy cubs is a positive indicator of the reserve’s environmental vitality, as mother cheetahs typically reject offspring with physical abnormalities. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-19: Asiatic cheetah Telma spotted with two cubs in Turan Biosphere Reserve A seven-year-old female Asiatic cheetah named Telma and her two year-old cubs were spotted in Iran's Turan Biosphere Reserve, providing hope for the survival of the critically endangered species. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/asiatic-cheetah-telma-spotted-with-two-cubs-in-turan-biosphere-reserve ### 2026-08-27: Asiatic cheetah project announces new conservation roadmap in Iran Iran's Asiatic cheetah project has announced a new roadmap focusing on habitat corridor restoration, removing free-roaming camels, and reducing livestock pressure to save the endangered species. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/asiatic-cheetah-project-announces-new-conservation-roadmap-in-iran --- Cite as: Asiatic cheetah conservation in Iran.
