Asmita Dey, a 23-year-old judoka from Tripura, secured India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal in judo by winning the women’s 48 kg title against Canada’s Heidi Quach. 

Following her victory, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha initially met Dey in New Delhi to congratulate her. Subsequently, the Tripura state government organized a formal felicitation ceremony in Agartala. During this event, the Chief Minister presented Dey with Rs 10 lakh and announced the allotment of land in Agartala for her residence. Dey expressed that her success was the result of hard work and discipline, noting her continued focus on future competitions such as the Asian Games.
