The Sonora State Attorney General's Office has launched an investigation into the physical and verbal assault of an 18-year-old transgender student, identified as René, in Hermosillo. The attack occurred on September 25 outside the CECyTE La Manga campus while the victim was waiting for transportation.

At least four female youths are suspected in the incident, which left the victim with a fractured nose and other injuries. While the victim is in stable condition, the injuries are expected to require more than 15 days to heal.

State Prosecutor Gustavo Rómulo Salas Chávez stated that the investigation is being conducted with a “gender perspective.” Because some of the suspected aggressors are minors, authorities are evaluating legal measures, including potential arrest warrants. The suspects have reportedly been expelled from the educational institution, and the Secretariat of Education and Culture is coordinating with the school regarding the incident.
