Reports of physical assaults and misconduct involving public officials and healthcare staff have emerged in India.

In late September, incidents were reported in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh. In Hyderabad, a doctor was detained by Cyberabad police after allegedly assaulting a constable and destroying the officer’s mobile phone. In Andhra Pradesh, a political worker accused a Deputy Superintendent of Police of using casteist slurs and issuing life threats via WhatsApp.

By early October, a separate incident occurred in Telangana’s Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, where a man allegedly attacked three staff members and a doctor at the Bhoodan Pochampally Primary Health Centre. The assailant reportedly damaged a computer and took a stethoscope. While police indicated the individual may be suffering from mental health issues, the Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA) has demanded legal action and increased security to protect medical professionals.
