Recent incidents in Italy have highlighted safety concerns for public transport workers following physical confrontations involving bus drivers.

In June, a dispute over an unpaid ticket at the Serravalle Scrivia railway station resulted in a physical assault on a driver for the Arquata Scrivia–Novi Ligure line. Two individuals, a 20-year-old male and his 24-year-old girlfriend, were charged with interruption of public service and violence against a public officer after being identified through video surveillance and passenger testimony.

In September, a separate incident occurred in Siusi on the 170 line. A passenger attempted to drag a driver out of the cabin after an AltoAdige Pass was declined due to insufficient funds. While no injuries were reported in this instance, the suspect was reported to the Bolzano Prosecutor's Office on charges of violence or threats against a public official and interruption of a public utility service.
