Sources: 16. Developments: 2. Athletic Club has faced a difficult period under manager Edin Terzic. Early season concerns focused on the team struggling to maintain competitive standards and maintaining squad morale. As the season progressed, the challenges shifted toward a persistent inability to score goals and a growing list of player injuries. Despite initial successes against Celta and Atlético de Madrid, the team experienced a period of three consecutive draws. The squad’s effectiveness has been further hindered by the absence of key players, including Nico Williams and Oihan Sancet. The situation worsened following a match against Valencia, where striker Gorka Guruzeta sustained a serious knee injury. Medical tests confirmed a “rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Guruzeta is expected to undergo surgery and face a recovery period of six to eight months. To address the resulting shortage of offensive depth, Terzic is considering options such as utilizing Iñaki Williams, Maroan, or promoting players from the Bilbao Athletic reserve team. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-19: Athletic Bilbao striker Gorka Guruzeta ruled out for season Athletic Bilbao striker Gorka Guruzeta is ruled out for the season after suffering an ACL rupture, deepening the club's attacking injury crisis. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/athletic-club-struggles-with-injuries-and-scoring-drought ### 2026-09-21: Athletic Club and Abanca Ademar face early season challenges Spanish sports see struggles for Athletic Club under Edin Terzic and a difficult Liga Asobal start for Abanca Ademar following significant roster changes. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/athletic-club-and-abanca-ademar-face-early-season-challenges --- Cite as: Athletic Club performance and squad challenges.
