The rivalry between Atlético-MG and Cruzeiro has seen activity across multiple competitions in late 2026. Atlético-MG secured the Mineiro Sub-20 Championship after a 1-1 draw against Cruzeiro, resulting in a 5-4 aggregate victory.

In the professional league, the two clubs met at Arena MRV for the 33rd round of the Brasileirão Série A on October 29, 2026. Cruzeiro secured a 1-0 victory in the Mineiro derby, with Kaio Jorge scoring the decisive goal just three minutes into the match following a cross from Keny Arroyo. This win marked Cruzeiro’s third consecutive league victory, bringing their total to 57 points and maintaining their third-place position in the standings. The result moves them closer to direct qualification for the Copa Libertadores and serves as a sporting rebuttal following their recent elimination by Atlético-MG in the Copa do Brasil. This victory also represented Cruzeiro’s first away win against their rival in 2026.

Following the match, Cruzeiro striker Kaio Jorge drew attention for his celebrations. He reportedly threw corn onto the pitch in a gesture perceived as a provocation toward Atlético-MG supporters. Conversely, Atlético-MG remains in seventh place with 50 points, having been overtaken in the standings by Bahia. The match was marked by a notable injury when Atlético-MG defender Vitão required an ambulance to leave the pitch following a collision with goalkeeper Gabriel Delfim. Additionally, Atlético-MG player Bernard criticized the team's collective performance, warning that a lack of intensity could jeopardize upcoming knockout matches in the Copa do Brasil and Copa Sul-Americana.
