Researchers from Curtin University, the Australian National University, and The Kids Research Institute have identified a statistical correlation between rising atmospheric carbon dioxide and changes in human blood chemistry. 

Analyzing U.S. health survey data from 1999 to 2020, the study found that as atmospheric CO2 levels rose from approximately 369 ppm to over 420 ppm, average serum bicarbonate levels in the blood increased by about 7%. Concurrently, researchers observed a decrease in blood calcium and phosphorus concentrations. 

While the study establishes a parallel between environmental CO2 increases and these biological shifts, the authors emphasize that the findings show a statistical association rather than definitive proof of direct causation. The research suggests that children and adolescents may be particularly vulnerable, and researchers have called for further investigation into these trends.
