A 24-year-old man was arrested in the Compensa neighborhood of Manaus for two separate attempts to murder a 47-year-old businessman.

According to the Amazonas Civil Police, the motive is connected to a homicide involving Marcelo Lauro Aguiar Fernandes that occurred in March. Investigators believe the suspect targeted the businessman because he may serve as a witness to that killing.

The first attempt occurred on August 5 when the victim was shot at his auto parts store. A second attempt took place on September 9, when a vehicle blocked the victim’s car while he was with his wife and daughter. During this second attack, the businessman was shot in the abdomen and thigh but managed to disarm the assailant and fire a shot that hit the suspect in the face.

The suspect was located and arrested at a relative’s home and is currently awaiting a custody hearing.
