Reports indicate that LeBron James experienced “internal conflict” during his final season with the Los Angeles Lakers regarding team hierarchy. While James reportedly accepted Luka Doncic as a primary option, he struggled with the playmaking responsibilities he had to defer to Austin Reaves, who averaged 23.2 points during his career-best season.

Following James’ departure to the Philadelphia 76ers, the Lakers have focused on Reaves’ evolving role. After signing a contract extension worth approximately $185 million over four years, Reaves is expected to transition into a more comprehensive leadership role on and off the court. Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka stated that the deal necessitates Reaves demonstrating the responsibilities of a “max-level player.” Despite the change in professional dynamics, Reaves has maintained a rapport with James.
