In late September 2026, a partnership was established with Honiara-based Smart Technology to provide specialized mobile phone repair training for ten hearing-impaired Solomon Islanders. This program, developed with the National Disability Forum Solomon Islands, aims to create inclusive employment pathways by providing tools, mentoring, and support for participants to secure jobs or start independent businesses. By mid-October 2026, Australian support expanded to include the donation of over SBD2 million in ICT equipment and learning resources to the Solomon Islands National University (SINU). This donation, intended to enhance digital learning and inclusive education, includes laptops and desktop computers for laboratories and libraries. Additionally, Prime Minister Matthew Cooper Wale addressed 50 students selected for the 2027 Australia Awards scholarships, describing the opportunity as a “loan to your nation” that should be repaid through service to national development. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Australia boosts Solomon Islands education through ICT donations and scholarships Australia has donated over SBD2 million in ICT equipment to Solomon Islands National University and is supporting 50 students through the Australia Awards scholarship program. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/australia-boosts-solomon-islands-education-through-ict-donations-and-scholarships ### 2026-09-29: Australia partners with Smart Technology for disability training in Solomon Islands Australia and Smart Technology have launched a partnership to provide mobile phone repair training to hearing-impaired Solomon Islanders to foster inclusive employment opportunities. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/australia-partners-with-smart-technology-for-disability-training-in-solomon-islands --- Cite as: Australia-Solomon Islands development cooperation.
