Switzerland has initiated ‘iamo’ (intelligent automated mobility), an autonomous electric robotaxi pilot project in the Furttal region of the Canton of Zurich. The trial involves three electric vehicles serving the municipalities of Boppelsen, Dänikon, Hüttikon, and Otelfingen via approximately 100 predefined stops.

Developed by the Swiss Transit Lab in collaboration with the Cantons of Zurich and Aargau and Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), the project tests how automated technology can improve ‘first and last mile’ connectivity in rural areas. While the vehicles drive autonomously, a safety person remains in the driver's seat. Passengers book rides through a dedicated mobile application.

Following the launch, the service recorded 15 passengers and 20 trips on its first day, with 750 registrations logged via the app. The pricing model consists of a 4.70 Swiss franc base fee plus 0.38 Swiss francs per kilometer.
