Turkey is progressing with the 36.5-kilometer Pazar-Ardeşen Junction–Çamlıhemşin–Ayder Provincial Road project, an infrastructure development designed to improve access to the Ayder Plateau.

On August 17, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu inaugurated a new 2-kilometer section of the project. This segment includes the 955-meter Çamlıhemşin Tunnel, along with the Fırtına Dere and Hala Dere-1 bridges. With this opening, 10 kilometers of the total project have been completed. The tunnel and associated bridges are expected to reduce travel time to the plateau by 20 minutes, bringing the total travel time down from approximately 55 minutes to 35 minutes.

The development aims to generate an annual saving of 772 million lira in time and fuel, while reducing annual carbon emissions by 4,800 tons. Specifically, the project is expected to provide 97 million lira in fuel cost savings.

Construction continues on the remaining sections, including the Hala and Hala-2 tunnels. A 7-kilometer stretch between Çamlıhemşin and Ayder is targeted for completion by the end of this year. The overall project features three tunnels totaling 3,670 meters and five bridges. Minister Uraloğlu noted that these investments are part of a broader national effort to modernize Turkey’s transportation network.
