Authorities in Minato City began investigating a potential mass food poisoning incident following the Azabu-juban Noryo Matsuri festival held in late August. Initially, the Minato City Health Center reported 76 individuals suffering from symptoms such as fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Many victims reported consuming ‘hiyashi kani ramen’ (chilled crab ramen), with social media reports pointing toward a stall operated by the creator Komeo.

By early September, the number of affected individuals rose to 78. Investigations identified Salmonella bacteria as the cause, specifically linked to the ‘cold crab ramen’ provided by the restaurant Kappo Komeo. The owner-chef of Kappo Komeo, a former participant in the fighting event Breaking Down, issued an apology via social media. He announced a suspension of restaurant operations to address the issue and work on compensation for those affected. Local authorities have ordered the business to suspend operations for seven days, effective from September 3 to September 9, with a reopening date yet to be determined.

As of mid-September, the number of confirmed patients has risen to 123, including a one-year-old child. Health authorities reported that Salmonella was detected in both patients and employees. Investigations revealed that the establishment failed to maintain mandatory daily hygiene records, such as refrigerator temperatures and tool cleaning, despite the owner reportedly being aware of these requirements.

Additional hygiene concerns have emerged regarding Komeo’s other restaurant, ‘Kanie’. A video by YouTuber Biwako-kun highlighted poor sanitary conditions at the establishment, specifically showing spoons submerged in spice containers. Komeo has since issued an apology via YouTube, appearing with a shaved head, expressing a desire to learn from the experience.
