Azerbaijan is expanding its domestic defense manufacturing capabilities, focusing on unmanned systems and small arms.

In early September, President Ilham Aliyev inspected a joint production facility between Azerbaijan’s MIRAS Military-Industrial Company and Turkey’s DEARSAN Shipyard. This collaboration produces the SALVO armed unmanned surface vessel and the KAYRA kamikaze unmanned surface vessel, intended to protect maritime energy infrastructure in the Caspian Sea.

By late September, at the ADEX 2026 exhibition in Baku, the country showcased further advancements, including the KASIRGA, a compact vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle manufactured in Azerbaijan. The KASIRGA is designed for intelligence and precision strike missions using AI-supported guidance. Additionally, the exhibition featured new Azerbaijani-made small arms, such as a NATO-standard rifle based on the M4 platform and the AZ 7,62 R assault rifle.
