Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has engaged in several high-level diplomatic activities to strengthen international ties. In late October 2026, Aliyev held a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss bilateral relations and regional issues. During this call, Erdogan invited Aliyev to the 13th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara, which marks the transition of the organization’s chairmanship from Azerbaijan to Turkey.

Following these discussions, Aliyev met with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen in Baku. The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in political, economic, and investment sectors, specifically regarding transport, logistics, and agriculture. Minister Berendsen also acknowledged Azerbaijan’s role in regional stability and its assistance in evacuating Dutch citizens from the Middle East.
