The town of Azuqueca de Henares began its September festivities by naming the Peña Ciclista José Luis Viejo as the ‘Popular of the Year 2026’. The celebrations honored the legacy of the late cyclist José Luis Viejo, specifically marking 50 years since his 160-kilometer solo breakaway during the 1976 Tour de France.

As the festivities continued, the José Luis Viejo Cycling Day attracted over 1,500 participants for an urban route. The event also recognized the José Luis Viejo Cycling Club, and proceeds from a community meal were donated to the Guada Acoge association to assist vulnerable groups.
