Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has continued to struggle for form during his return to domestic first-class cricket. After requesting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to facilitate his participation, Azam joined Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) as a guest player for the President’s Trophy Grade 1 tournament.

In his return match against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Azam scored 12 runs from 20 deliveries. He was dismissed by a bouncer from Arshad Iqbal, caught by Abdul Faseeh, as OGDCL fell to 46-4 following his departure.

In a subsequent appearance against the State Bank of Pakistan at Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad, the 31-year-old was dismissed for 21 runs after being adjudged LBW by Afaq Afridi. This follows a period of inconsistent performance, including a recent domestic appearance where he scored 16 runs across two innings and an unsuccessful tour of England.

The PCB has directed Test players to participate in domestic cricket to regain rhythm, noting that Azam has not recorded a century in the longest format since 2022. Following his recent dismissal, ground staff had to intervene to ensure Azam’s safe passage to the pavilion as fans gathered to seek photographs.
