Several Balkan nations have announced their official selections for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

Bosnia and Herzegovina selected the debut feature film ‘Udovac’ (The Widower), directed by Hari Šečić, which follows an elderly man navigating life after his wife’s death. Montenegro chose the documentary ‘Planina’ (Mountain), directed by Biljana Tutorov and Petar Glomazić, which depicts a mother and daughter defending a nomadic community against military training ground construction.

Albania has selected the documentary ‘Film i Shtetit’ (State Film) by Roland Sejko. The film uses archival footage to examine 40 years of the communist regime under Enver Hoxha without external commentary.
