Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital has expanded its specialized medical services in Italy with the opening of two new clinics addressing modern health challenges in children and adolescents. In early October, the hospital launched a neuropsychiatry clinic focused on digital addiction. This facility addresses problematic use of smartphones, social networks, and video games, as well as new psychological interactions with artificial intelligence. The initiative follows data showing rising daily smartphone use among Italian children. Later in the month, the hospital inaugurated Italy’s first pediatric outpatient clinic dedicated exclusively to myopia at its Palidoro location. This clinic aims to manage the progression of vision defects in the approximately 2 million young people in Italy affected by the condition, which experts link to increased screen time and reduced outdoor activity. Professor Luca Buzzonetti, head of the Ophthalmology Unit at Bambino Gesù, emphasized that childhood intervention is essential to prevent serious adult complications such as retinal detachment, myopic maculopathy, and glaucoma. The clinic will also focus on collecting clinical and epidemiological data to better understand the spread of the condition in Italy. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-21: Bambino Gesù opens Italy’s first pediatric myopia clinic Bambino Gesù has opened Italy's first pediatric clinic dedicated to myopia to slow vision defect progression in children. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bambino-ges-opens-italys-first-pediatric-myopia-clinic ### 2026-10-04: Bambino Gesù Hospital opens new clinic for digital addiction Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital has opened a new clinic to treat internet and digital technology addiction in children and adolescents. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/bambino-ges-hospital-opens-new-clinic-for-digital-addiction --- Cite as: Bambino Gesù Hospital specialized clinic expansions.
