The electricity supply to the Bangladesh national grid has seen fluctuations involving major coal-fired power sources. In mid-September, technical faults at Adani Power in India were resolved, increasing its supply to approximately 1,046 MW. However, this was countered by a technical failure at the Rampal coal-fired plant in Bagerhat, where one unit shut down for maintenance, reducing its output from over 1,100 MW to below 600 MW.

By early October, the Rampal plant, a joint venture between the Bangladesh Power Development Board and India’s NTPC, reached a production milestone. Both units of the facility operated continuously to supply the grid, producing a combined total of 1,321 MW.

## Timeline

### 2026-10-03: Rampal Thermal Power Plant achieves record electricity production

The Rampal thermal power plant in Bagerhat achieved a record production of 1,321 MW, supplying electricity from both units to the national grid following the resolution of mechanical issues.

### 2026-09-13: Adani Power resumes supply as Rampal plant unit shuts down

Adani Power resumed full electricity supply to Bangladesh's grid, but the Rampal power plant's output fell by half due to a technical fault, creating new pressure on the national grid.
