Following the violent July–August 2024 protests that toppled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the interim government led by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman began institutionalising the memory of the unrest. In August 2024 the administration opened the "July People's Revolt" memorial museum in Dhaka, announced the renaming of public institutions after protest victims, and pledged transparent trials for those responsible for the killings.

Two years later, on 5 August 2026, Bangladesh marked the anniversary of the uprising with a series of nationwide programmes. The government organised flower‑laying ceremonies at martyr memorials across all districts, cultural performances, exhibitions of historic photographs and documentaries, and special prayers. Prime Minister Rahman inaugurated a new July Uprising Museum, while President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram attended receptions for families of the martyrs. Additional commemorative actions included the issuance of a postage stamp, the opening of museums, parks, hospitals and other public facilities free of charge, and similar events at overseas Bangladeshi missions.
