The banking sectors in Greece and Cyprus have demonstrated growth in both revenue streams and deposit volumes.

In Greece, systemic banks have reported a significant rise in commission and service revenues, which reached approximately 1.44 billion euros in the first half of 2026, a 25.3% increase compared to the previous year. While operating costs for major institutions like Alpha Bank and Eurobank have increased due to investments in technology and personnel, cost-to-income ratios have remained low or improved as revenues outpaced expenses.

Concurrently, total bank deposits in Greece rose by €19.1 billion during the 12 months ending June 2026, reaching a total of €223.565 billion. This 9.3% increase was characterized by a higher average balance per account despite a decline in the total number of accounts. In Cyprus, deposits increased by a net €562.3 million in July, bringing the total balance to €59.2 billion, driven largely by household and non-financial corporate deposits.
