Initially, regional assessor Cosimo Latronico highlighted the importance of community cooperatives in preventing regional abandonment and ensuring access to healthcare and essential services for vulnerable populations, such as the elderly. He noted that while these cooperatives are vital, they must complement rather than replace public welfare responsibilities. Following these discussions on community support, the Basilicata Regional Council's IV Commission unanimously approved regulatory adjustments to the S.C.A.C.Co. law (Service of Active Citizenship for Culture and Social Cohesion). This legislative initiative seeks to foster civic engagement and personal growth among the region's youth by providing access to cultural projects, training, and Erasmus-style opportunities. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-14: Basilicata advances S.C.A.C.Co. law for youth engagement The Basilicata Regional Council has advanced the S.C.A.C.Co. law, offering Lucanian youth opportunities in culture, civic engagement, and training, including a dedicated service card. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/basilicata-advances-scacco-law-for-youth-engagement ### 2026-09-19: Basilicata officials emphasize community cooperatives to protect local services Basilicata official Cosimo Latronico highlighted the importance of community cooperatives in preserving essential services and supporting territorial healthcare in rural areas. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/basilicata-officials-emphasize-community-cooperatives-to-protect-local-services --- Cite as: Basilicata regional social cohesion initiatives.
