Baskonia and Ukrainian center Alex Len have mutually agreed to terminate his two-year contract following persistent foot discomfort. The injury, which Len had previously treated during his tenure with Real Madrid, surfaced during his first training session with the Spanish club. Although Len had passed his initial medical examinations, the injury prevented him from participating in the Spanish Supercup and cast doubt on his availability for the EuroLeague season opener against Olympiacos. After experiencing ongoing pain, both parties determined that a mutual termination was the best course of action. Len, who had signed on September 14, ended his tenure after only nine days, leaving Baskonia to rely on Kenneth Faried as their primary center.

In the EuroLeague season opener for the 2026/27 season, the reigning champion Olympiacos secured a dominant 106-89 away victory against Baskonia in Vitoria. Despite an early deficit where Baskonia led by eight points following a flurry of three-pointers, Olympiacos regained control through superior offensive execution and defensive adjustments. This victory set a record for the most points scored by the Piraeus-based club in an away game.

Olympiacos’ victory was fueled by high-scoring performances from Tyler Dorsey (25 points) and Sasa Vezenkov (22 points), alongside contributions from Giann Montes and Tariq Jones. Following the match, coach Georgios Bartzokas noted that while the team is still building chemistry and dealing with a demanding schedule, the victory was a vital step. He emphasized the importance of finding balance between offense and defense even during difficult periods of play.
